    So, funny story...

I’m driving back from school on a major highway today and I pull into the right lane like a good driver, cause I’m not passing anyone. A cop pulls behind me and follows me for a good quarter mile until we have a shoulder to pull over onto. He pulls me over, steps up to my car and asks for my license and registration. I give it to him and this is our exchange,

    “Where you coming from?”

“Langhorne, I go to school there.”

    “What are you studying?”

    “The Bible, sir.”

“Ah. That’s good for you. Have a nice day, Andrew.”

And that’s it. He didn’t even tell me why he pulled me over. I literally laughed for a good 2 minutes after we got back onto the road.

God has a good sense of humor.

Church Matters: What The Church Doesn’t Talk About

    image

    An excerpt.  Full post here.

Occasionally a pastor will address an uncomfortable issue in one of three ways:

    1) A passing reference so as to remove any possible offense to sensitive ears.

    2) An overbearing, haranguing, suffocating set of rules and restrictions.

    3) Complete misinformation with little to no relevance.

Since many pastors (including myself) are easily driven by guilt, fear, shame, self-loathing, uncertainty, and insecurity, this is magnified when we reach a sticky topic that might still be a personal struggle. This results in a wide silence over the topic or an unhealthy fixation.

The pulpit or our theological venue shouldn’t be a place where we blast microscopic issues — that’s usually a sign of public self-exorcism or cathartic unburdening therapy — but rather how God’s Word shines a light on everything from the top-down. If God’s Word staunchly opposes, so must we, but if there’s room, we need that grace to chase creative ways to deal with it. Without that singular motive driving the myriad of issues, we get lost in semantic noise.

I believe that God’s Word is absolute authority, not just because it’s the Word of God but because it actually works. So of course I believe the Bible has timeless wisdom for issues big and small, hairy and tall. When the Word is funneled through experience, logic, relevance, discipline, and sound hermeneutics, we get both our salvation and sanctification.

    labels.

I cannot be a casual dater. I feel ambivalent about a lot of things in life, but not when it comes to love. I can’t grasp the concept of “dating around” or “friends with benefits”. I usually don’t like labels, but this is the one exception. I’d like to have clear objectives. I’m tired of playing games. I hate being led on and then let down by these unrealistic expectations. I just want something real, true, intense and passionate. Someone to call my own.

I have one reason why you should walk away from that temptation right now. One reason: God. Is. Better.
