Because I don't talk about myself enough here.

    1. I am twenty six years old. Young. I don’t know.
    2. When I was little, I told people my brothers and sisters all ran away. I was pissed I didn’t have any, that’s why.
    3. I work full time, go to school full time, and try to balance an overactive and not always awesome family life and enjoyable social life in there somehow. I have an associates degree (do those even count anymore?) in fine art, a bachelors in finance, and I just started and industrial/organizational psychology masters program (let’s just call it business psych?) and already want to move on to be a dr soon. We’ll see.
    4. I have zero babies. Hopefully when I read this again in 15 years or whatever, I’ll have had two babies, at least one of which will be a boy.
    5. One of my all time favorite activities in the entire world is sitting on a patio, drink in hand, talking about anything. Beaches work too.
    6. If I could have any job in the entire world and money ain’t a thang, I’d be a soundtrack compile..ist. Or a DJ. Probably the first.
    7. Sometimes I suffer from bouts of FOMO. Then I get over it.
    8. I get really warm really often. I don’t know if this is a thing.
    9. I LOVE art and things used for decorating, but have literally almost nothing on my walls and about 3 paintings leaning against them still. I moved into my apartment in September.
    10. I might not agree with what you do, but if I can understand why you’re doing it and it makes some sort of logical sense, I will defend you until I’m blue in the face.
    11. I missed out on a lot in high school because I was one of those miserable Coal Chamber kids that wore gigantic pants and thick hemp necklaces and had blue hair, but I wouldn’t change a damn thing—especially now that people are shocked to find that out.
    12. Since I don’t have babies now, my dog is my baby. She doesn’t live with me though and I’m upset about it.
    13. I’ve never smoked weed in my life. I don’t KNOW what my problem is/was. One day.

The Science of Why Adele’s ‘Someone Like You’ Makes Everyone Cry

Tension, resolution, and the ever important “buildy-ness” (which is a term I invented but is accurate), these are the characteristics behind the most extreme emotional reactions to songs:

Twenty years ago, the British psychologist John Sloboda conducted a simple experiment. He asked music lovers to identify passages of songs that reliably set off a physical reaction, such as tears or goose bumps. Participants identified 20 tear-triggering passages, and when Dr. Sloboda analyzed their properties, a trend emerged: 18 contained a musical device called an “appoggiatura.”

An appoggiatura is a type of ornamental note that clashes with the melody just enough to create a dissonant sound. “This generates tension in the listener,” said Martin Guhn, a psychologist at the University of British Columbia who co-wrote a 2007 study on the subject. “When the notes return to the anticipated melody, the tension resolves, and it feels good.”

Chills often descend on listeners at these moments of resolution. When several appoggiaturas occur next to each other in a melody, it generates a cycle of tension and release. This provokes an even stronger reaction, and that is when the tears start to flow.

There’s just about the most detailed scientific analysis of a Grammy-winning song ever at the link.
