An Interview With Linus Torvalds | TechCrunch

I’m have to admit being a bit baffled by how nobody else seems to have done what Apple did with the Macbook Air – even several years after the first release, the other notebook vendors continue to push those ugly and *clunky* things. Yes, there are vendors that have tried to emulate it, but usually pretty badly. I don’t think I’m unusual in preferring my laptop to be thin and light.

Really fascinating interview with the father of Linux. He discusses all manner of things including his project management style, the future of “disposable” computers, and how he works from home and gets things done. But, he spends the first couple of questions talking about his love of the MacBook Air and his general disdain for just about every other laptop being made (i.e. Specifically, anything that is not the MacBook Air).

Job, Joris & Marieke created The Tumblies as a children’s series. The characters are made from discs, which gives them a lot of chances to fall apart and switch around as they figure stuff out. In addition to Balloon, you can also watch Telephone and Doors. Super cute!

Make a very lovely hovercraft! This super awesome DIY project requires a bit of parent or teacher supervision (sharp needle needed to make a hole), but overall, it answers all of my wishes: Not only does it teach about physics and get kids making things that are fun, but it gives us a great use for the old CDs that we have in boxes around the house! (And there are quite a few.) That alone makes this project a gem in my book.

YAY, Toys from Trash! We’ll definitely be seeing vids from Team Arvind Gupta here again…

    Scott Walker - “Jackie” (1968)

Just amazing. The man really had his own thing going on.

Tell me how we get Bowie, Morrissey, Teardrop Explodes, or Echo & the Bunnymen without performances like this.
