
Suresh tells me that Osian means “Gate of Death,” and although his facts are not always spot-on (that’s a hyperbole), I choose to believe him.

For beyond the walls of the city lies an expanse of sand dunes, that’s actually not much of an expanse at all, more like a few acres. Nevertheless, they rise above the burned out tundra of the landscape, an introduction to a larger expanse that one cannot see from Osian. Quixotically, one could imagine setting upon them, and for five or ten minutes, affecting some pretty serious David Lean.
