Here is the thing I can’t stop thinking about with what’s happened here in Minnesota over the course of the past week: the display of support in the Twin Cities was staggering. The level of f*cks not given to those who might be offended by this acknowledgement of equal rights under the law was amazing.
But mostly, mostly. I think about a queer kid, riding in the back of her parents’ car seeing the city lit up like this. Maybe she hasn’t come out yet, maybe she’s been bullied, at home, at school, for being who she is. I can only imagine what seeing this would mean. And then I get teary and proud all over again.
Way to go, Minnesota. Who’s next?Wow.
Twin Cities are, from everything I’ve heard, SUPER queer friendly/maybe the new San Fran for a younger generation. So like, I’m not necessarily surprised, but I really freaking love it. Plus, this is one reason why Twin Cities are on a short list of mine of awesome places I wouldn’t mind trying living in.
MINNESOTA REPRESENT!

Inside Mexico City’s Chaotic Underground Rush Hour
“I wanted to show a part of the Megalopolis that struck me, that showed very clearly that something is not working well for us as human beings in relation with our environment.” -Héctor Mediavilla
A glimpse of Mexico City’s subway as seen through the lens of photographer Héctor Mediavilla.
Known as one of the worst cities in the world in which to drive, Mexico City’s rush hours aren’t much better underground with a subway system that generates around 4 million riders a day.

‘The Great Gatsby’ Still Gets Flappers Wrong
Through their writings, Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald—the young, glamorous literary couple du jour—defined the Jazz Age as we know it. Scott declared his Southern belle wife, whom he married in 1920, “the first American flapper.” The inspiration for Daisy Buchanan in “The Great Gatsby,” Zelda was known for her wild antics, like drunkenly jumping, fully clothed, into the fountain at New York’s Plaza Hotel. Even as a kid, she was always creating a scene: She stole a car when she was 8; she went swimming in a flesh-colored bathing suit in her teens….
But Zelda, as fearless and trail-blazing as she was, can’t even embody the flapper movement fully. For one, it was not all white women, as NYU’s Modern America reports: “For the time being, the bob and the entire Flapper wardrobe, united blacks and whites under a common hip-culture.” Secondly, the flapper’s rebellion against Victorian sexual mores didn’t start among the high-society debutantes, but in “working-class neighborhoods and radical circles in the early 1900s before it spread to middle-class youth and college campuses.”

You know what would be a really cool alarm clock, If it were Nick Fury from the Avengers, so when it went off it said “Wake up MOTHER FUCKER!!!” and when you pressed snooze it went “I acknowledge that you’ve made the decision to snooze, but given that it’s a stupid ass decision i’ve elected to ignore it” and just kept beeping.
