As a few of my follower friends may already know, I have been admitted to University of Washington. (Ah, never thought I’d say/type that phrase!) I am going to be a complete newbie, to the campus, to the city, to the idea of living away from my parents, yadda yadda yadda. You know, the whole generic “moving out of state for college” speech. I won’t bore you with it. Anyways! My point is, I would really love to meet anyone who is in a similar situation and who is going to UW starting fall quarter of 2012 :3 My name’s Katya, I live in Las Vegas, I’m planning on majoring in English lit (maybe comparative literature) and I’m moving to Seattle in the middle of July. so apparently ucsc used cal’s/ucla’s applied student rankings or w/e to judge their own applicants if the applicant applied to both ucsc and cal or ucla.

One year ago, two Uno Bars started appearing in the refrigerator at random intervals. One would be marked ‘Nat’ and one would be marked ‘Liz’.

I can’t speak for Natalie, but I sometimes I wondered why there were Uno Bars.

They were clearly from my dad. His chicken-scratch handwriting could never be mistaken for my mom’s (who’s a teacher) perfectly formed letters.

I originally thought that maybe my dad bought them on a whim whenever he went to whatever store sold them because I can’t ever find them. Who’s actually heard of a Uno Bar? They’re pretty good and I’m surprised that no one knows about them. They remind me of Three Musketeers (my favorite), yet they’ve got a different consistency.

About a week ago, I found out why the Uno Bars are left in the refrigerator.

Every time my dad meets with an oncologist, he gets Uno Bars.

When I got home from Dive today, I found two bars in the fridge. These bars used to make me smile because they’re so good. But this time, I felt sick. I haven’t touched mine. I don’t think Natalie has touched hers either.

My mom told us that at my dad’s oncology meeting today, they’ve given us three options

1) Let the cancer kill him
2) Chemo every other 2 weeks (which means more mood swings) until either the cancer or chemo kill him
3) surgery in 3-5 weeks (he’d be recovering while I graduate)

We’re going with option three right now. The surgeon isn’t optimistic. If there are more than 3 tumors (which he expects), he won’t finish the procedure. And we go back to option number 1 or 2. The surgery has the opportunity to create a lot of complications.

Best case scenario: 5 years
Worst case scenario: 9 months

I’m probably going to be moody for the next week or so. I’m just going to apologize ahead of time.

And if anyone has any ideas for how I can relieve some stress, let me know. I dislike crying on someone’s shoulder. I’m really proud and I have to cry alone. I can’t do it in front of people. But anything else is fine.

Also, I’ve read that A Fault in Our Stars is really good. Does anyone think it’d be a good book to read for coping with cancer/death? If it helps, I disliked The Lovely Bones. Too boring. IDK if they’re similar.
