My mom is great
Some man who wanted to sell something knocked on our door today and my mom opened. The man asked her ”well hello lady, is the boss at home?” She replied with ”yes, she is standing right in front of you” the man laughed and said ”nooooo I mean a man” While she looked offended at the man and raised one eyebrow she said ”sure, wait a minute, I’ll get him” She took our cat Timmy and placed him in front of the man, he stared at him for a few seconds and started to laugh again while my mom replied: ”I don’t even care what you are trying to sell us, I will not buy it from someone who thinks the man is the only one who can buy things and decides for our family whats good or not, because I’m very good at that too. If you want to sell something to our neighbors, leave the sexism behind cause I know they will not appreciate it either.” and closed the door.

This is the beautiful flying ace Natalya Fyodorovna Meklin née Kravtsova (1922-2005), a much decorated World War II combat pilot in one of the three women-only Soviet air regiments (nicknamed the ‘Night Witches’ by their German opponents). She joined the air force at age 19 and flew 980 night missions by the end of the war. After the war, she graduated from the Military Institute of Foreign Languages and worked as a translator until retiring. Among her many awards was the title Hero of the Soviet Union, the highest distinction in the Soviet Union, awarded personally or collectively for heroic feats in service to the Soviet state and society.
Natalya was also a huge fan of classical literature, particularly Tolstoy, and became a writer herself.
