With a total of 5 stories and 85,000 square-meters of space on the site of the former wall separating East from West Berlin, The Factory is a clear statement of intent. Just as Google’s new Campus building in London’s Shoreditch is attracting satellite offices from tech startups, The Factory aims to be a the heart of Berlin’s new scene.

(Elizabeth Stone)She’s also not with her dad. She’s not with a relative. She’s with two lovely young women named Susan and Corinna a 15-minute bike ride north of home with six other little children. It’s her first day of “school”. It’s just five hours and, for now, it’s just once a week.
I think about that Elizabeth Stone quote a lot. I have yet to find a truer way to describe parenthood. My heart jumps out of my chest every time Luisa takes her brave steps to independence. It falls when her excitement leads to bumps, bruises and the occasional bloody lip. It flutters around when she does something ridiculously adorable. It rarely feels like it used to when it just stayed in one place, steadily beating.
