The idea of turning burned-out incandescent light bulbs into vases and terrariums has made the blogosphere and Pinterest rounds. If you haven’t come across it and/or haven’t read a useful tutorial explaining how to open up bulbs and clean them out, check out this Freepeople post or this one from Instructables.
My long-lost friend Thomas sent me this extremely cool picture. Who knew you could dye eggs with old crappy ties? (A lot of people, apparently. But not me!)

More pallet repurposing …
In this installation, pallets are used as tiered seating in a media room. The pallets’ open sides can be used as shelves for books, magazines, and other items. On the opposite wall, wall-mounted pallets set off a screen.

I love this idea because it admits one core fact which is still shaping the way businesses that operate online function - there isn’t really an ideal schooling path for this, in my opinion.
While doing this for an engineering team is a start, I’d love to see a Hungry Academy-style approach to building other teams and skillsets within a start-up environment. Almost like a career incubator rather than a start-up incubator.
At the end of the day, I love any idea that aims to solve a complex problem. Finding the right fit of skills, drive and culture is definitely a problem that hasn’t been definitively solved yet, anywhere.
As if there could possibly be any other outcome.
Thanks, Us Weekly! Although I guess I should consider retiring this coat now, knowing that two of my least-favorites also own it. Coats are for quitters anyway.

Isn’t this basket, woven from rolls of 35mm and 16mm film, a great new use for old film?
Probably fairly easy to make, assuming you have strips of film/negatives and know how to weave your own basket (there’s a tutorial for that here).

Continuing the new uses for old books theme:

Perhaps paired with this “book floor” piece, or this book chair?!
