i was thinking that i’d really like to be a detective for a circus because one day some of those tiny hats and huge tutus WOULD go missing and i’d be able to walk around singing “look for the bear accessories, the stolen bear accessories”

empire by dar williams [lyrics]
some would say that we’ve forced our words, and we find that ingenuously churlish. words are just words. don’t be so pessimistic, weak, and girlish. we like strong, happy people who don’t think there’s something wrong with pride. work makes them free, and we spread that freedom far and wide.

We saw Moonrise Kingdom last night and though I wasn’t sure I would until the second half, I loved it. More than ever it made me realize how much I appreciate the dignity with which Wes Anderson treats childhood. How he acknowledges that children are just small people. Not stupid or dismissible. Valid and complicated and insightful but with a lot of critical experience left to round them out. At 12, this movie would have felt like salvation to me. (Taken with instagram)

finem reblogged filipinafemme:“The only reason “coming out” is still even a thing is because it’s presumed that people are straight until they tell us otherwise. “The Other must identify itself, or else it is decieving us” is a fucked up, dangerous idea.”

finem reblogged velvetnymph:“Pluto is interesting because it’s fixed on its moon, Charon, and they rotate around each other, constantly staring at each other affectionately, which is kind of a beautiful metaphor but I think that’s one of the reasons why it was demoted. Because I think now to be a proper planet you have to command the authority of others and because the moon and Pluto are sort of existentially attached as equals neither of them can be considered a planet. [Pauses] Sad, but true.”
