We Need to Talk About Kevin (2011)
Ugh, what a bloody incredible movie this was. One of the greatest you will ever see.

Moonrise Kingdom (Wes Anderson, 2012)
Just been to see this, after what must be months of anticipation! I expected it to be good, definitely, but it was so much better!
In terms of cinematography, framing and mise-en-scene, Moonrise Kingdom is a perfect film - surely cementing a place for Anderson as an equal to aesthetic masters like Kubrick, Antonioni and Hitchcock. A hell of a lot more can be said about its technical and artistic proficiency than that, but it’s best to see it rather than to endlessly discuss it.
Away from that side, Moonrise Kingdom has great characters and dialogue, with brilliant performances from young leads Jared Gilman and Kara Hayward, as well as (a surprisingly lovable) Edward Norton, Bruce Willis and Tilda Swinton. Gilman’s pretentious pre-teen scout Sam and Hayward’s bookworm trouble child Suzy are really familiar to me, reminding me of people I know and of myself, so that was kind of nice to see. They (and the other characters, and the movie as a whole) were very funny and touching, too.
It’s charmingly quirky, as always with Anderson’s movies, but it’s more of a Rushmore than a Darjeeling Limited (that is to say, it’s not confusing and it presents its themes of awkward romance skilfully). So, go see it! As soon as you can!
