Is Russell Westbrook a fashion icon? J.A. Sherman at SB Nation blog, Welcome to Loud City, believes Westbrook’s vacillations between business class casual and hipster might make him the next inspiration for an Anna Wintour shoot. The polarity of Westbrook’s outfits might lead one to call him a fashion icon, which doesn’t really matter.

Westbrook’s “Sallie-Jessie Raphael” glasses and a fishing lure speckled polo straight from a local Golf Pro Shop—the outfit he rocked last nightwas tangentially hipster-esque, I guess (I live in Williamsburg Brooklyn, the hub of the hipster ethos, and I still have no idea what that term encompasses).

But I generally like to look at Russell Westbrook as an NBA player, not a mannequin for our cultural cliches. His reliance on faux-spectacles as a part of his sartorial choices as a whole, mean NBA bloggers will continue to post pictures of his outfits and declare him a part of the blossoming NBA hipster market.

I don’t care as long as he shoots efficiently and shares the ball with his Thunder teammates. I suspect he cares even less than I do, but here I am again, perpetuating what I don’t understand.

“Is Russell Westbrook a fashion icon” isn’t as important a question as “Is he the point guard that can lead the Thunder to a title?” I suspect the latter question will be answered some time in June. For now though, check out his outfits, and don’t shoot the messenger.

Westbrook’s fashion sense is the only tangible question we can ask right now.
