MY entire life, I’ve always been an anime fan, even before I knew what anime was.
In 5th grade Sailor moon and Gundam wing were brand new, and I was obsessed with Sailor moon.. I drew sailor moon 24/7. One day, two girls, We’ll call them S & K, noticed the drawing of the scouts on my notebook, and latched onto me. They were (mind you.. 5th grade) greasy messes, but I didn’t care, they liked my drawings. We quickly became best friends, spending every moment together. They introduced me to GW, and their.. boyfriends, K’s Heero, and S’s Trowa, and insisted I pick a GW boy.. I picked Duo.. They spent hours writing (on paper.. this was before computers were major parts of our lives) fanfictions about them having dramatic love lives with these boys, even passed notes to each other as the boys..
My Twin lives in Finland. So I’ll ask her about that, just to see. :)
White privilege is when fandoms vilify WoC on television shows for doing the same shit their white counterparts are praised for, and then bawling when they’re called racists.
Also saying “Why’s it gotta be about race?” makes me want to punch you, because when a black woman is called a bitch and a diva for being strong and a white woman is praised for it, it is MOST DEFINITELY about race.
I’m watching you TVD and Glee fandom.

Not gonna lie, the “two people embracing while looking deep” is a time-honored pose that’s seen around a lot on all levels of art. The trick is getting it composed properly to convey whatever it is you want to focus on. I wasn’t sure if the original was going for sadness or erotica, so the redraw ended up zeroing in on “possession” to cover the bases.
I pushed the floaty underwater hair and the green mermaid’s corpse appearance further because those are fun to draw and made good focal points. Suggested scaly texture on the tails a bit to keep them from being flat.
Still practicing painting digitally, but I think I have an okay grasp on skin tones now. Hands are tough if I’m going straight to color instead of under-painting in black and white. Overall though, fun times with this redraw.
