TWENTY FAVORITE VIDEO GAME LADIES (in no particular order) | Oerba Dia Vanille

Vanille isn’t “strong enough” since apparently the only way people think you can be strong is by carrying a fucking Buster Sword and beating up bad guys with it.  Vanille can take out a boatload of bad guys. More than anyone making that argument, I’ll bet you fifty bucks right now.  But that’s not where her strength comes from. It takes strength to resign yourself to a fate worse than death, even by doing nothing at all except trying to get out of dodge because you know what you are, and you know it makes you dangerous to the people around you.  It takes strength to realize that others are being negatively affected by your reluctance to do the task you’ve been given because if you won’t do your job, someone else will be forced to do it for you.  It takes strength to face someone you care about, someone who has lost everything, and tell him that you’re the reason his son became a monster.  It takes strength to lie to someone you love and tell her that you forgot everything too, even though you remember exactly what she did.  It takes strength to face a young woman facing a much more difficult (and doomed) path while knowing she would never be in that position if not for you. But most of all, it takes an extraordinary amount of strength and resilience to face it down.  To carry the weight and responsibility of painful things you set in motion with good intentions and keep moving forward.  To still be able to sleep, laugh, recognize that the people around you are falling apart (even though you are too) and encourage them to cheer up.  To fight your fate itself, something that looks more and more inevitable with each passing second and still have faith. To be utterly surrounded by chaos and still be able to worry about your awesome pet robot. Don’t tell me Vanille is weak because she isn’t a soldier like Lightning since you are wrong, and that’s that.  She is one of the most phenomenal Final Fantasy characters I have ever seen, and I’m willing to bet one of the most phenomenal Final Fantasy characters I will ever see since you can only make a character as amazing as Vanille once.
