He popularised it, yes, but it would not have been an uncommon phrase in English before then.
Though to be honest, I’m slightly confused about your point Anon. We said it was a phrase closely associated with Physical Force Republicanism, particularly the Provos. Bobby Sands was a volunteer in the Provisional IRA, who were the dominant wing of PFR at that point. We’re clearing in agreement, you just can’t see past the name Bobby Sands.
This is the problem we, as a group, have with mythologising Irish history. There is absolutely nothing beautiful about the story of Bobby Sands, or the Troubles in general for that matter. Every thing about it was shit.
