Have any advice for an aspiring entertainment/sports journalist about to graduate from grad school?

Start a Tumblr. Write provocatively. Write for free. Open a new Buzzfeed branch in your hometown. (Not a joke.) Write long. Ask your favorite freelance journalist how they pitch. Chances are, they’re great at it. Entertainment/sports was not a traditional categorical definition for a journalist until fairly recently, and I suggest you not self-identify as such. Write about everything. It’s the biggest mistake I’ve made.
