You can’t control very much.

This is how I feel at times, especially at this point in my life. I can work my hardest to gain someones trust, or to prove my worth and that doesn’t necessarily mean I’ll come out on top. I can’t control my family, the choices they make or have made. I can’t control the things my friends are going to do, how people will change and how everyone moves on. Right now I feel like I can’t even control my own living situation without completely screwing up my life which is tough to accept.

One of the many things I love about dance is the element of control that is represented. When you execute a move you’ve got to learn to control, to fight gravity, to gain balance, to master your body in a way. Music shares the same control. I can control the movement, the pace, the idea, the creation. I can control when I get down and when I freeze, when I transition and when I wait. Even at my lowest, I can control my soul when I can control the music.

Or maybe the music controls me…
