    I am sorry…

I am sorry for not updating this blog as I intended while training for my half marathon. In the month of April, I flared up my plantar fasciitis and then was sick with a terrible allergy induced cold… this all lead to barely no training on my part and a lot of medication.

    So I am sorry… but

Never the less I FINISHED my first Half Marathon yesterday, May 6, 2012. 13.1 miles of running and walking. I could go into detail of the entire race, but all I know right now is that I finished with my head up high and I think I was smiling. The first 8 miles I did very well and stayed on course with the timing I was hoping to finish with. Once I hit mile 10, my body just started to cry a bit. I don’t blame it but at the same time, I knew I had to finish. I was met up with a wonderful friend, who probably shouldn’t have finished the last 3 miles due to her injury (I hope she is okay today), but still walked with me to the last bit and then ran with me over the finish line. I will forever thank her for helping me across. I was greeted by my best friends and family and all I knew was that I was done and I had a medal around my neck, which I deserved. I earned it. I finished 13.1 miles.

So Thank You to everyone! Thank you to the race coordinators, volunteers, the cars what waited (hopefully patiently) to turn on to the street we were running on, and to all the awesome support you all gave me. More pictures will be posted soon as Marathonfoto.com posts some horrible picture of me…. lol

I want to send out a huge thank you to everyone who came out yesterday evening for our very first Pints & the Past session, to our speaker, Chris Butler, to Frederick Beer Week for helping us get the word out (hope this week goes well!), and to Brewer’s Alley for generously hosting us.

If you were there and haven’t already told us what you thought, suggested future topics, or signed up for our e-newsletter, you can do so online here or by responding below.

Mark your calendars for the next Pints & the Past on September 13, when our curator, Carrie Blough, will talk about some of the more interesting objects and stories she’s come across in putting together our 2012 special exhibit, The Fritchie Phenomenon: Barbara Fritchie in Popular Culture, which opens June 1. Fritchie’s face and name were plastered on a lot of odd things, from pantyhose to hams to cans of sweet corn, so it should be a lot of fun.

What did you think? What should we talk about next year?

Maryland Craft Beer fest was in Frederick this weekend. Favorites include:

    -  Franklin’s “Petiite Fleur” (Hyattsville, MD)

    -  DuClaw’s “Devil’s Milk” (Hanover, MD) (terrible marketing and design, think if Nickleback designed a beer line), but that beer was awesome. Not a Barleywine fan but t’was delish.

    -  Growler’s “Bordeaux Barrel Amber” - Smokey, rich, and delicious. I find it kind of ironic that on a hot ass day, my two favorite beers were ones that I’d most likely think to enjoy in the colder months.
