long time no see
it’s been so long since i logged in and tried to post something that i actually had to update my browser just to get the posting function to work. dang.
y’all do know i still follow most of you in google reader, right? i’ve been creepin’ you all along, just without the little hearts and comments to let you know i’m there :)
i’m getting married in 10 days! aaaaaaaaaaaaaah! we called off the big wedding because it was just too much to handle on top of all the crazy family stuff that’s happened in the past year (i don’t want to go on and on about that, but between deaths and illnesses and injuries and job losses and new jobs and a super serious court trial [yes really] it’s just more than we could deal with).
we settled on a compromise between eloping (which we wanted) and a wedding (which our families wanted) by agreeing to a teeny tiny ceremony with just immediately family present. i wish i had the time and funds and mental stamina to do a “real” wedding but i just…can’t. the plan now is to do the super small ceremony then run away on our honeymoon (which i am SO excited about and we so desperately need), and then do a big reception/party sometime in the next year when things calm down a little bit.
i’m finally starting to feel like i’m finding my groove at my new job, which is a relief because the first month or so was actually super brutal, to be completely honest. there were several nights of me coming home in tears and thinking i’d made a huge mistake by accepting this position, but things are starting to turn around. it’s still really different than anything i’ve done before and not something i ever expected to do, but…mama might be a saleslady after all! :) i do miss the design and publishing world quite a bit, but i am working on a little side venture that might fill that void - more to come on that later.
hmm….what else can i give an update on… chuck is still fat and wicky is still a nerd, in case any of you were wondering about that.
alright, that’s all for now, just wanted to check in and say hi and try to start making my way back in to this little space that i adore so much!
[if the android app would actually work without crashing every 4 seconds, it would make staying up to date and posting regularly a lot easier! ahem…]

Our house is a very very very fine house.
Ladies and gents…we bought a house today.

The story goes like this…
One morning, frustrated by the stagnant real estate market and the dwindling pool of homes from which to choose—each one containing one fatal flaw that would make it ridiculous to buy—I did a search for something…anything new. I found the listing, on a total fluke, after it’d been on the market for approximately four hours. And this one…this one looked promising. I saw the listing, sent it to Jonny and our agent, and by that afternoon we were in to see it.
I drove up and was in love. We walked in and within minutes looked at each other and mouthed “ooooh myyyy gooood.” Jonny pulled me aside at one point and was like, “this is our house!!” He then told me to play it cool. Which was hard. How do you play it cool when you’re already planning where your furniture will go?
Needless to say, after a fairly quick negotiation, we got it. The owner, who was there when we saw it, told her agent that we were just the family she wanted to sell her home to. Say it with me now…aaaaaaaaaawwwwwww.
Georgia, meanwhile, was truly the happiest in that house of any that we saw (and we saw a LOT of houses). Seriously. There were a bunch of houses she cried incessantly in. A bunch where she was just kind of whatever. This house, she was smiling and laughing. No joke. We all knew. It was our home.
So I’m all excited and overwhelmed planning everything. I’m currently trying to choose paint colors. I know I should do all neutrals, but I would like some color. But I’m gunshy—we all know what happened the last time I went with color. I hated it and repainted within a year. I don’t want the same thing to happen here. So here I’ve been, at the computer, looking through design websites. Jonny sleuthily took a picture of me doing so:

Biting my lip. Searching hardcore. Yup, that’s me. (man that’s a high bun!)
So now, the interesting thing is, all this time I’ve been afraid of the suburbs. I didn’t want to be too “suburban”. I wanted some element of city. OR I wanted to be in the all-out country. I’ve always said that. I’d pack up and move to some small town somewhere and be happy. Well, instead of doing that, we chose a suburb that has about 5000 people, is super woodsy and country like, and has an elementary school that’s still called a “primary” school with 15 or so kids to a class. So now I gotta live like I said I was gonna live. Quiet, small town life. Granted, this small town is surrounded by the bustling cities of the north shore of Chicago and feeds into one of the biggest high schools in the country, so I can get some bustle if I need it. Best of both worlds, perhaps? We’ll see.
Anyway…we’re tremendously excited and are moving two weeks from today. The day after my birthday. Happy birthday to me!
Our house is a very very very fine house.

A very fine house indeed.

As I cut the umbilical cord, Milo started to cry and shiver. One of the nurses, a dour Russian woman who had bossed Sascha around a little too much for my liking, said, not unkindly, “Oh, baby, life is hard.”
“Shut up,” I snapped. She looked at me with astonishment. “He just got here. He doesn’t need that shit yet.

I’m proud to announce that after nearly two years of work, the original soundtrack album from Looper is now available to pre-order on iTunes.
We spent an extended amount of time creating the music for the movie (check out the soundtrack featurettes below if you haven’t already), and we’ve continued to work on everything in order to make sure the album is really special. The music has been re-mixed and mastered especially for the soundtrack release, and it features a 24 page booklet designed by The Made Shop with exclusive photos and and essays. We’ll have a couple versions available (for those of you who like your media to be physical) and I’ve been meticulously overseeing every element involved in this. I can’t wait for all of you to see the movie and hear the score!

“There is that scent in the air, of going back to school, of beginning again and reconfirming the order that exists. He wants to feel good, he always used to feel good at every turning of the year, every vacation or end of vacation, every new sheet on the calendar: but his adult life has proved to have no seasons, only changes in the weather, and the older he gets, the less weather interests him.”
