DO:

• above all else, do be respectful. You aren’t helping anyone by being rude, no matter what “side” you’re on
• do know the rules. There are very few few sites that allow editing, so follow each site’s respective rules. If you are older than five, you should understand this. If you are younger then five, why are you on the internet?
• do be aware. You may have 0 followers, you may have 5,000, but if you edit a fantaken picture, even non-followers might point this out to you.
• do know when to stop. Fantaken pictures are gifts from fans that were lucky enough to see your favorite artists. If they say “we don’t want people editing,” then listen to them.
• do understand that the fans providing these pictures own those pictures. They spend sometimes thousands of dollars, and could just leave them unedited, un-uploaded, and keep them for themselves. They are gracious enough to let other fans—often including international fans—see their pictures for free.

DON’T:

• don’t be rude. I cannot stress the respect idea enough. If toddlers can do it, so can you!
• don’t think you’re invisible. Don’t think tumblr is a safe hub. There are people here who can report you, who can reprimand you, and maybe even have been the one who took the picture you edited.
• don’t think people are trying to stop you from editing. Believe me, there are plenty of pictures that fans haven’t taken that you can edit.
• don’t be mad when fansites shut down if you edit their pictures. There are two big reasons sites shut down: loss of interest, and people editing their photos. And the latter is the most common.
• don’t think people won’t report you. Simple as that. Fans want to see their artists, and they won’t let a few selfish people get in their way.
