lewcourtney reblogged jarsofdust:“When a Christian man and woman systematically deny their own physical desires as an expression of mutual faith and submission to Jesus Christ, they are laying a solid spiritual foundation for their marriage. They’re learning to fight sin as a team. They’re learning to care for each other, pray for each other, and challenge each other. In the most practical of ways, they are submitting to Jesus Christ as the Lord of their relationship.”

James, what do you think treasures on earth mean of? And treasures in heaven?
Anonymous
Hi Anon,
I’m a big fan of “letting scripture interpret scripture.”
So first I look at what Jesus said just before He addressed treasures on earth and treasures in heaven:
In Matthew 6:1-18, Jesus talks about the way Christians should give, pray and fast. He says that those who do these things “to be seen by others” have “received their reward in full.” But those who do these things “in secret” will have a fatherly “reward” from God.
Then I look at what Jesus said just after He addressed treasures on earth and heaven:
In Matthew 6:24, Jesus says “You cannot serve both God and money.” And in verses 25-34, He talks about how Christians shouldn’t worry about the material things money can buy - like food and clothing.
Lastly, I look at other parts of the Bible that say similar things:
In Luke 12:34, Jesus uses the same words: “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Like in Matthew, this Luke passage is accompanied by words warning us not to worry about material things. But this time Jesus also says, “Sell your possessions and give to the poor.”
After looking at the preceding context, the following context and any similar scriptures, I think we can draw a conclusion:
- Treasures on earth include self-serving things like pride, money and material possessions.
- Treasures in heaven include relational things like serving others, belonging to God and growing closer to God.
If that seems a little disappointing, keep in mind that we aren’t given a lot of detail about the treasures in heaven. They are in heaven after all. But Jesus is pretty clear that they’re worth the wait - and they make treasures on earth look ridiculous.
I hope that helped. You ask a great question.
Peace, love and Jesus,
-James -

So, who wants to jump on a track with Dan The Automator?

“For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline” (II Timothy 1:7, NLT)
So many people today are missing out on God’s abundant life of joy, peace, and victory because they keep giving in to fear. They are afraid to make a decision, they are afraid to confront issues, they’re afraid to step out in faith, they’re afraid of the past, and they’re afraid of the future. But as believers, we don’t have to live that way.
Fear is not from God. God has given you power, and His power is greater than the power of any of your fears. You have to make a decision to deal aggressively with fear. You can’t be passive and expect to live in victory. The only way to conquer fear is to confront it head on. As long as you’re running from your fears just ignoring them or sweeping them under the rug, you’re not going to get any better. Refusing to deal with fear doesn’t make it go away. Instead, be strong-willed and determined knowing that the enemy is defeated. As you declare God’s Word that says you can be bold and strong, you’ll have the courage to conquer fear and move confidently into the destiny He has in store for you! -
