Every day, scores of people make the switch to reading ebooks, but my co-worker, Alison Presley, realized that almost no one knows how they’re made. And so budding gumshoe that she is, she hiked up two floors and interviewed me and my co-worker, Kerri, to get to the bottom of things.

It is more than adorable.  It is the proper way for young readers to communicate with writers—or narrators—whom they wish to contact.  I can only hope that readers of The Templeton Twins Have an Idea choose to write to me this way—on a piece of paper the size of a bath sheet, in large block letters.  Bravi, Mrs. Reed’s Fifth Grade Class.

Et tu, Tumblr?  It is not enough, that I must endure the “pestering” of the fans of Mr. Ellis Weiner?  Now I must be subjected to the pesters of the public at large?  Oh very well.  Do your worst, public at large!

Not so very long ago, we knew what a book was. It was printed on paper. It was roughly 350 pages. And it had a cover. You could sign the front page, lend it to a neighbor, and keep it on a shelf. Now, with the explosion of digital content, it’s not so easy to say what constitutes a book.
