Editor Guidelines
As Editors, you are in the position to shape and influence how content on Tumblr gets discovered and shared. We aim to encourage community-wide participation in the tagged pages on Tumblr, so the editorships are rotating.
The quality of your selections per the community's response will influence the the duration of your time as editors. As editors, you can feature up to 20 posts for each tag that you curate every day. New Editors are selected based on the quality of their contributions to the tag pages.
- Look for diverse content. Tumblr has many viewpoints and expressions. Select posts to reflect the entire community and not just the perspectives of a few.
- Emphasize original content. Choose posts with original content and commentary over links to headlines and photos without additional context.
- Select posts that give credit to the people who came up with the original content. Please select posts that have links to the original source. Be sure that the posts give credit to the original artists and writers who have dedicated time and effort to create original content. Check to make sure that posts link their content (photos, videos, publishers, writers, etc.) back to their original sites. The features we have around content attribution are pretty nifty if you're keen to read up!
- Choose posts from active and legitimate accounts. Take a few moments to consider the author of the post you're selecting to ensure that they're members in good standing with the Tumblr community. Try to avoid inactive blogs and accounts that engage in spam or link-baiting.
- Don't post NSFW, illegal or creepy content. We'd love for your personality to shine through but please be respectful of the larger community.
- Don't accept money or gifts in exchange for your editorial services. Bribery is bad. Earning the community's trust is spectacular.
- Don't use your selections for personal purposes. The tag pages are for members to explore the diverse content on Tumblr. Don't use your selections as a way to market your blog or your friends' content.
Tips
Use the everything stream. Oh, the world beyond your own dashboard! The everything stream on the tag page includes all posts refers to the tag you're curating. It's a rich source to select posts from bloggers who aren't in your following feed.
Search for related tags. If you've exhausted the everything stream, you may want to do a tag search for everything on Tumblr that may be related to your edited tag. For example, if you're editing #tech, you may want to search for posts tagged with Google, apps or the top tech stories of the day.
Whew! Ok, that's it. Ready, set, go!
